The most important of the Egyptian gods, Ra is the personification of the sun; the creator who gives light and warmth, and thus growth. The Eye of Ra is crowned with the figure of the sacred serpent (uraeus,) an emblem of sovereignty depicted on the headdress of ancient Egyptian rulers and deities. This eye has also been named for Egyptian gods Horus and Ma'at. Horus is also a creator god, the falcon who flew up at the beginning of time, whose eyes were thought to be the sun and moon, with the eye used as a symbol for higher states of awareness. Ma'at was the Egyptian goddess who personified the concepts of truth, cosmic order and justice. At the final judgement of souls, Ma'at helped to determine the ultimate fate of the deceased.
